Graphite and Charcoal Cat

Here is the drawing I have been working on today. I still have alot of work to do on the light fur below the chin so I have cropped some of this area off! This is the same cat as the one in my website pet portrait portfolio "Jeremiah".

Charcoal Vs Graphite Drawings

I have been experimenting with a combination charcoal/graphite drawing over the last two days and while it looks ok I the next one I draw will be using Graphite only. This is because I have veiwed other artists work in both mediums and I think I prefer the effects that can be acheived with only graphite. I should be able to post the combie drawing in the next two days.

Charcoal cat!

I have been inspired by other artists to do a charcoal and graphite portrait of a cat. I am really excited by my progress and I am photographing it stage by stage to show you. Here is the reference photo I am working from. I will post the first drawing stages soon.

Sunrise Peel Isle Update

Here I have added the masts and their reflections and detailed the boat hulls a little.

Sunrise Peel Isle

Today I have begun painting in the moored boats. They are quite pale at the moment but will finish up being darker and more like sillouettes. I also have to add relections of the boats and their masts. I have renamed the portrait sunrise rather than sunset because I had made a mistake!

Reef!

Here is a close up of the Murray Wrasse! I enjoyed using gold and silver paint to highlight him/her!

I have been working on the coral today. I have yet to plan what I want to do with the rest of the painting although some of the fish require more detail. This acryllic painting is 60x24inches.

Head Perch finished!

Head Perch is now finished! I have deepened the sky and signed it!

Here is a close up for you to see the detail.

Sunset Peel Isle Update

Today I have done the water reflections and worked on the clouds. Next step is to add some sillouetted moored boats.

Breeze

Yesterday I finally delivered the pastel portrait of Breeze a tri-colour collie to the owner at a dog agility meet. Breeze is ten years old and has sadly been going blind from a young age. I met Breeze and he is a beautful dog. Breeze's portrait was a prize awarded at the 2008 Australian Dog Agility Association Grand Prix.

Sunset Peel Isle

I have done the under colour on the water today and played around with the clouds a bit. When it is finished the water will be mostly a yellow orange relection of the sky with dark sillouetts of boats anchored for the night. This is a place where we often anchor our boat for the night sometimes rafting up for a party with friends.

Cowboy !

Okay! Here is what I have done today. More detail added to Cowboy's face; played around with foreground; darkened hand; but does it look better?

Cowboy Update

Here is what I have been working on today. Balancing the colour of the forground to match that of the background is very tricky! I have done somework on the mans face but it needs finishing and I have altered colours and composition of the for and mid ground. Not satisfied so I will be back at it tomorrow!
